Purchase This To Insure Your Shipment!
One (1) Winter Protection Insurance covers up to 6 plants in your cart.
Worried about your plants arriving safely in chilly weather? Add this to your order! We highly recommend adding Winter Insurance if your local HIGH temperatures are below 45 degrees in your location or if your order is using UPS Ground as the shipping source, as it will likely pass through colder states on the way.
Our Winter Insurance is simple: When you add this to your order, we’ll personally check the weather conditions along your plant’s journey from our greenhouse to your house, and take all the necessary precautions no matter the cost (such as using heat packs, special packing procedures, or shipping on certain days) to ensure that your plant arrives safely. If, in the rare event your plant doesn’t arrive safely, we’ll replace or refund it at no cost to you. (See filing a claim below for specifics.)
We’ve been shipping plants safely throughout all of the winter months for 2 years now. Year-after-year we’ve refined the process of how to ship plants through the dead of winter, and 99+% of the time they’ve arrived safely. By purchasing Winter Insurance you can rest assured that your plants will arrive safe, happy, and healthy in the proper winter packaging for your location.
Why does Winter Insurance cost extra?
Most times we need to use additional packing materials to properly insulate and protect winter shipments. The additional cost simply covers our average costs to ensure your plants arrive happy and healthy in winter.
What happens if I don’t purchase Winter Insurance?
Without Winter Insurance: Orders that do not contain Winter Insurance are meant for people who live in areas where they are absolutely certain they will not need a heat pack or special packing due to the climate (or simply prefer we pack their order normally). If Winter Insurance is NOT purchased, plants that contain pests/disease upon arrival or are damaged during shipping will be refunded or replaced free of charge (per our normal Return, Replacement, and Refund Policy). If you do not add winter insurance to your order, however, we are not able to cover any damages that our team determines are related to cold weather.
What happens if I purchase Winter Insurance?
WITH Winter Insurance: Orders that purchase our Winter Insurance will have our staff manually checking the destination and journey of your plants and ensuring that the proper heat packs, additional packing methods, or other precautions are taken to ensure your plants arrive safely despite the cold. If Winter Insurance is purchased, plants that sustain damage from shipping INCLUDING from cold/heat related damage, will be refunded or replaced free of charge.
I forgot to add Winter Insurance to my order, can I add it later?
You can add Winter Insurance any time up until 24 hours before your order ships by placing a new order containing just Winter Insurance and shooting us an email at orders@gabriellaplants.com to let us know.
Is Winter Insurance refundable?
Once purchased, Winter Insurance is non-refundable.
What happens if I combine two orders with Winter Insurance?
If you placed multiple orders and want to combine your shipment, we’re happy to combine your orders into one shipment as usual. We won’t be able to refund your extra orders’ Winter Insurance costs, but we will follow our normal procedures for refunding additional shipping costs on combined orders. (See our Shipping Policy for details on requesting order combinations.)
Last year I purchased Winter Insurance but some of my plants arrived without heat packs—why is that?
Certain plants tolerate temperature differently. For some species, placing one or more heat packs in their box can actually damage them in all but freezing conditions due to the prolonged exposure to the warm heat source right next to their leaves. During winter, we take extensive precautions to ship plants with different climate needs sensibly. We consider the climate of your plants’ entire journey from our greenhouse to your house when planning their packaging needs. And, in the rare event that your plants encounter a weather-related issue, we will replace or refund them at no cost. (See how to file a claim below for details.)
How do I file a Winter Insurance claim?
Filing a claim is simple: Within 10 days of receiving your order, reach out to us by email, and follow the instructions under Opening a Claim on our Return, Replacement, and Refund page to provide us with the information we need to process your claim. For weather issues, most times we just need a photo of your plant. Unfortunately, we are unable to honor claims opened more than 10 days after you received your plant.
NOTE: If you decide to ship your order with UPS Ground, adding Winter Insurance is recommended as the route may affect your plant even if your location is not experiencing low temperatures.
