Senecio radicans is commonly referred to as String of Bananas and String of Fishhooks, is native to South Africa, Lesotho, and Namibia where it can be found creeping along sandy, rocky soil. Thick stems lined with plump banana-shaped leaves that are green with translucent lines on the sides, can quickly grow up to 3' long! Flowers are small, white, and smell like cinnamon Looks fabulous icascadng over the sides of a hanging basket, but can be trained to grow upwards on a trellis or moss pole too!
If you are growing indoors, select a spot near a sunny window in bright indirect light for best growth. If grown outdoors, can be slowly acclimated to morning sun, but make sure it is protected from strong afternoon sun as it may burn the leaves. Make sure to water only when soil is dry, as it is prone to root rot when overwatered, and ensure you have proper drainage. Although it does tolerate occasional drought, the soil shouldn't be left dry for long, if you notice the leaves begin to wrinkle, it’s telling you it's thirsty!
