According to taxonomic authorities, Monstera borsigiana is synonymous with Monstera deliciosa, meaning the most accurate name for this plant is Monstera deliciosa var. borsigiana albo. The "var." means variety, although the powers that be are still deciding whether borsigiana is a subspecies or a variety!

M. deliciosa, which most collectors refer to as the "large form," develops much larger leaves at maturity with multiple rows of fenestrations. Meanwhile, M. var. borsigiana, which most refer to as the "small form," stays much smaller and tends to only get one row of fenestrations. You'll also notice the vine growth is different: the internodal space (the distance between leaves on the stem) is longer on the small form borsigiana, while it stays much tighter on the deliciosa large form. Another difference that is easier to see when plants have developed mature foliage is on the petioles (leaf stems). The "large form" has defined ripples at the top of the petiole, while the "small form" does not get these exaggerated ripples, although it has been known to develop a slight pleat on occasion. As both are M. deliciosa, they both develop fruit that is edible when ripe—with the "small form" fruit growing to about half the size of the "large form."

Monstera as a genus is most widely known for its species deliciosa & adansonii, which both feature fenestrations [natural leaf perforations] as they mature. Monsteras are naturally epiphytic but grow well as houseplants in typical potting media!

~Do Not place in full sun. Though Monstera can be acclimated to full sun, our Monstera have been grown under shaded, greenhouse conditions.

~Monstera are considerably hardy & tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions, but for the best growth it is recommended to provide higher levels of humidity.

~If trying to get Monstera to mature, give them a moss pole or wood board to climb! Make sure to keep the pole or board saturated though so aerial roots can attach & actually climb!
