Ficus maclellandii 'Alii', commonly referred to as the banana leaf fig, has narrow, upright and sometimes multi stemmed habit that make it perfect for vertical spaces. Medium growth rate. Indoors, under ideal conditions can reach an average of 7'-10' high with a 3'-4' spread.
~Although drought tolerant, do not allow your Ficus to dry out too much. In general, Ficus should be kept slightly moist during the growing season. Water when the top 2" of soil are dry. They do not like wet feet, so if 30 minutes after watering you see water in the saucer, pour it away.
~ Ficus prefer medium to bright light & can even be acclimated to grow in full sun. Do not place in low light areas.
~Do Not place in drafty areas or under/near an air vent. Unless temperature & humidity are high, drafts or cold air may cause Ficus to drop their lower leaves.
Bought to replace a variegated one I neglected. This came well packaged and healthy with lots of leaves and new growth. I'll continue to get plants from her- always impressed!

Ficus maclellandi alii 4” nursery pot (3/16/26), this plant was healthy when delivered from “Gabriella Plant Nursery in Florida. I knew that this Ficus coming from Florida to San Francisco California that a temporary incubation made out of clear plastic bags would have to be considered...this went on for a little less than two weeks. Plant is adjusting well to the soil environment of sandy-humus, perlite, volcanic pumice, and daily spraying to the leaves...in reading about most young Ficus, at youth they have a tendency to be epiphytic (like Orchids). This plant does not like to be overwatered, so I had to pay special attention to my initial soil composition so my Ficus would not be totally without water, but not heavy with standing water. I find that most Ficus species like these kinds of environmental cultivation conditions. Order Number #199303

I like this plant! Then I was watching Tik Tok and saw a person's plant collection and she had a mature very large one. I like it even more now! The day after it arrived it dropped a leaf. That scared me. The next day it dropped another leaf! Then it stopped. Now it is happy and putting out new growth. I saw 4 new leaves in 1 week!! I think it just got stressed during shipping. It's still acclimating in my kitchen and I am not going to re-pot for quite a while. This is a really cool looking plant. Thank you
As expected the packing was fantastic. I think that’s the second part of why I tell people talk about how poorly their Hoyas came in. I tell them about you guys and go give you a try. I brash on you all the home. This Alii is a beauty. I’d seen one a couple years ago and never thought I’d get one. The ones I saw on Etsy were too expensive. I’m willing to wait for it to grow. It’s already got new young leaves when I bit it. It’s beautiful.
