Cryptanthus are commonly referred to as “Earth Stars”. Keep the soil damp at all times during the growing season, minimize water in winter. Prefers bright indirect light, will tolerate a bit of early morning or late afternoon direct sun, midday sun can scorch the leaves. Protect from temps below 40F.

Bright, indirect light brings out the sharpest leaf banding; low light causes the foliage to fade. Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy; unlike many bromeliads, Cryptanthus do not hold water in their central urn.
