Coffea arabica "Coffee Plant" is commonly referred to as Arabian Coffee. Small, glossy, dark green leaves have prominent leaf midrib and lateral veins.Flowers are produced in dense clusters in the axils of the leaves. Flowers are white, star shaped and sweetly scented. Immature berries are dull green, as they ripen they change to yellow and finally bright red. Dried seeds provide the coffee beans of commerce. Self pollination can occur!
Plants may be grown indoors in containers with a fast-draining potting soil. Indoor plants like bright sunny windows, but when taken outdoors appreciate light shade. Plants first flower when they reach 3-4 years old. Fertilize during the growing season. Genus name comes from the Arabic word kahwah meaning beverage, and the specific epithet arabica means of Arabia.
