Alocasias come in a wide range of shapes & sizes from small statured Jewel Alocasias to leafy giants, but care is relatively the same for all plants in this genus!
~Do Not let Alocasia sit in excess water. Alocasia are prone to rot if left with “wet feet”. Once watered, make sure to drain any extra water.
~Do Not place in full sun. Though some larger varieties can be acclimated to full sun, our Alocasia have been grown under shaded, greenhouse conditions.
~Alocasia are rhizomatous, meaning as they grow they will produce offshoots on short stems at or below the soil line. If you see bulb-like balls [known as corms] in the pot, Do Not remove them as these will grow to become new Alocasia!
This is my first Alocasia. I nearly cried when I opened the package. Look at how beautifully it arrived. And not to focus on shipping- guys I love my postal workers, they deal with so much. But this baby and 2 others sat in a facility here in IL with real feel temps of 106 for 24 hr and emerged from Gabby’s packing looking like this. I do not have an updated photo because she’s been under my care for a week and a half and that has nothing to do with this review so don’t worry about it. Just know that she arrived in immaculate condition and I would thoroughly recommend buying Alocasia from Gabriella’s and having it packed by Amanda because, once again, look at this plant.
4” pots from you are VERY different than those from elsewhere (which is why I now very, very rarely order plants elsewhere). Yours are full, healthy, pest-free, and tend to do much better acclimating. Others…50/50, really. I have never received a less-than-excellent plant from you, and likely never will. Thanks!

Nice, small plant. I purchased three, and of the bunch this one has had the most difficult time adjusting to the new environment, but I hope within a few more weeks it will bounce back.

I have wanted one of these for about a year. Came well protected. List two little leaves due to being rather soggy but it has a new leaf and it will be fine!

My Black Velvet arrived in great condition! One of the leaves has what I think is hard water on it, but it’s not a serious issue (also, I’m a plant novice so it could be from something else). It looks healthy and after owning it for a couple of weeks, it already has new growth. Will definitely order from Gabriella Plants again.

Developed rot in the stems very fast with very minimal watering. (only a slight water after repotting into well draining soil) Stems drooped and after treatment of rot, continued to spread until all stems and top of root ball was rotten as well.
I didn’t expect to fall completely in love with this alocasia, but I did!!! My very first alocasia in my collection and I’m hooked! She’s already pushing out a new leaf after being with me for a few days so it’s safe to say she’s happy with me!

This plant managed the transition to my house OK. It has lost one of five leaves. The rest of the leaves are mostly OK; one is curling, but that could be because it's winter in northwestern Pennsylvania and my house is dry even with humidifiers running.
