Nepenthes ‘Alata’ is actually a hybrid of Nepenthes alata x ventricosa.
Keep in a warm and bright spot with some humidity, appreciates a bit of morning sun - avoid mid day direct sunlight. Ensure the medium never dries out completely, maintain consistent moisture but be sure it has proper drainage and does not remain soggy- do not allow your Nepenthes to sit in water. Use rainwater, distilled water or reverse osmosis water. Be careful with bottled water as these may contain salt which will kill your pitcher plant. Keep a small amount of water in each pitcher!
Something that can be found on a variety of plants is extrafloral nectaries or EFNs. These glands produce a nectar that over time, will oxidize and dry, leaving behind a hard, dark-colored spot of concentrated sugar. For most plants it attracts insects like ants to protect them from herbivores, but for carnivorous plants, it can also attract insects that the plant will eat. Sometimes, because of the high levels of humidity, saprophytic fungi or mold, will grow on the sugar residue. This forms a harmless "sooty mold" that looks like black, fuzzy spots around the nectar glands. The black spots are, in most cases, a sign of a healthy, active plant, rather than a sign of disease. They can be gently wiped off with a damp cloth.
Ordered a pitcher plant which when it arrived I was surprised as to how big it was. It big, healthy & filled with pitchers. Gabriella plants always exceeds my expectations.
Incredible. I was worried about shipping, though I should obviate those fears. Gabriella Plants has excellent shipping methods. Every single pitcher was completely intact, with nary a broken leaf. The fluid from the pitchers had come out during shipping, which is normal. I added some drops of distilled water to the pitchers a few days after it arrived. I’m awestruck by this massive plant and she’s already earning her keep! I can see gnats, ants, and small moths in the pitchers, girl is practically paying rent.
Alata came in phenomenal shape and is growing new pitchers as we speak! Thank you so much for the smoothest and most satisfying experience and new friend in my mail order plant acquisition life!!!
Can't wait for my vanilla orchid!!!! When's it coming 😍?!
2 Nepenthes Atlata received from Gabriella seem to be doing quite well. I'm running out of window space however. The last Nepenthes I received didn't have any viable pitchers like the first one but I think with some time and humidity it'll be fine. The first one is making pitchers presently. Overall the plants were received in good shape overall the 2nd one had been put through the wringer by the USPS. We had to reassemble it but it's gonna be fine..
I love my new Nepenthes Atlas. The plant arrived healthy and well packed. Highly recommend this seller to purchase your tropical plants. I looking forward to purchase another Nepenthes in September.
I was researching Venus fly traps for my son. Then I saw these and I really had to have one. But I needed something on the cheaper side cause I was afraid I couldn’t keep it alive. When it got it was shocked to see it bigger than I thought. Five stars!
I am a new customer to Gabriella Plants and am very happy with my first order. The pitcher plants arrived in real good shape, with several pitchers and are doing great. I am looking forward to ordering a few more and will do so as soon as they are available again!
Love love love!!! Perfect perfect perfect!!! This is my first time ordering a plant from a website. Was sooo nervous but let me tell you! Amazing packaging, amazing plant! Just obsessed! Thank you sooo much!!!
Very cool plant! It arrived healthy and is making new pitchers. I hope that it continues to do well. I have been doing a lot of research on the carnivorous plants. Thanks for offering a wide variety of plants!
Worried about your plants arriving safely in chilly weather? Add this to your order! We highly recommend adding Winter Insurance if your local HIGH temperatures are below 45 degrees in your location or if your order is using UPS Ground as the shipping source, as it will likely pass through colder states on the way.
We grow tens of thousands of plants every single year, but every week, our teams pick out only the BEST from what's now ready to ship so you get the freshest plant possible.
