Hoya biruensis is characterized by its shrubby epiphytic pendulous habit, linear leaves, and long green peduncles with tiny purple spots produced at almost every node in mature specimens, and single, night blooming flowers. Formerly referred to as Hoya aff. spartioides, now considered the third species in what we may now consider the spartioides complex. Unlike H. spartioides whose tiny flowers consistently close and wither by morning of the day after they bloom, the much larger flowers of H. biruensis partially close on the second day, and reopen fully during the second night!

Hoya biruensis is one of the newly discovered, critically endangered species, named after Bukit Biru which is the type locality not included in a protected area. West Kalimantan.and all forests have been proposed as Protected Forest but many areas including Bukit Biru are already degraded habitats and currently being converted to palm oil plantations or used for other crop plants. Bukit Biru hasnt been extensively explored but based on available observations the number of individual Hoya biruensis is extremely limited and at a single location. In cultivation the species appears to be easy to grow and flowers often!

Note to customer: May drop leaves during transit, however, the plant will be perfectly healthy and will grow new leaves with proper care. It is recommended that you reach out to orders@gabriellaplants.com to upgrade to 2-Day shipping when purchasing this plant.  Limit of 1 per customer per batch released.

Hoyas are mostly epiphytic creeping, twining or vining plants that have a vast array of different leaf shapes, sizes, textures & colors! If provided with the desired conditions Hoyas can bloom, their flowers varying widely species-to-species with many different colors, sizes & even scents!

~Do Not let Hoya sit in excess water. As epiphytes, in the wild they would be growing on tree trunks or branches in the forest understory where they would get most of their water just from dew or moisture in the air.

~Hoya are considerably hardy & tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions, but for the best growth it is recommended to provide higher levels of humidity.

~Do Not remove the peduncles [flower stalks] after your Hoya has finished flowering. A lot of Hoya are able to rebloom again & again from the same peduncle!

~Feed regularly during the growing season with a low nitrogen fertilizer containing sufficient amounts of phosphorous and potassium.
