Castanospermum australe, 'Lucky Bean Plant' grown as an indoor houseplant can reach an average 4-6’ high in a large container. The plant sprouts from large green seeds that can be seen on the surface of the soil and provide nutrients for the leaves and stems while the plant is young. Luxurious, shiny, dark green leaves with a pale green midrib are pinnately compound and can reach up to 2' in length! Each leaf develops 9-17 leaflets 3-5" long. As a houseplant it thrives in bright indirect light, will tolerate direct light but need to get it acclimated slowly as these have been grown in a shaded greenhouse. Keep soil evenly moist during the growing season but ensure proper drainage as this plant detests wet feet where roots are prone to rot. Allow to dry slightly in winter months. Trim to maintain desired shape and size.
