Asparagus densiflorus 'Foxtail Fern' features bright green, upright plumes of small, needle-shaped, leaf-like branches that give it a fluffy appearance similar to a fox's tail, creating a dense, shrubby, fluffy appearance as it matures.
Despite its name and feathery, plume-like appearance, it belongs to the asparagus family and is actually a flowering perennial that reproduces via seeds and tubers, rather than the spores that true ferns use to reproduce. This moderate to fast growing, evergreen perennial typically reaches anywhere between 1'-3' tall and 2'-4' wide. easily maintained at smaller size through regular pruning and shaping. Very easy to grow anywhere from full sun to full shade, but for best form requires at minimum bright indirect light. While they are not ferns, they are excellent, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant plants for containers or garden beds in warmer climates.
