The Marantaceae family is commonly known as “prayer plants” due to their circadian rhythmic nastic movement known as nyctinasty in which they move their leaves based on an internal circadian clock! This family contains genera such as Calathea, Maranta, Stromanthe & Ctenanthe.
~Do Not place in full sun or high light. In the wild Marantaceae are tropical forest floor plants. This means they grow best in bright shade to low light conditions.
~Do Not water with tap water that has not been conditioned. Marantaceae are sensitive to metals or excessive nutrients in the water which may cause leaf edges to crisp or burn.
~Make sure to provide moderate to high levels of humidity. If humidity levels are too low [40% or less], leaf edges may crisp or burn.
I've researched her; she will eventually move to an area with more humidity. I will probably use a tray with pebbles that will be kept moist. She might benefit from a water globe.
I’m new to the hobby of plants, but quickly became obsessed with calatheas. They’re pet safe! And the colorful leaves are so cheerful. I later discovered that can be hard to care for, but my plant arrived in beautiful shape - all the way across the country- and it’s thriving!

I was nervous to try a calathea because I heard they can be finicky, but for $10 I decided to give this variety a try. It's doing great in my low light bathroom and is unrolling 2 huge new leaves. It's a really pretty plant and I'm glad I took the chance. Hopefully it continues to do well, as it seems very healthy.

Y’all. When I say I gasped when I saw this plant….I GASPED. She was $10 and is huge. Absolutely stunning. I unwrapped the plant and immediately fell in love! The color of the leaves were lush and vibrant. Reported in Miracle Grow Cacti soil and placed by my humidifier and so far so good! Am a happy camper!

Absolutely huge for a 4” plant..came with 3 new growths already poking out, and huge brightly colored leaves! The leaves were all impeccable with the exception of one little spot where a fertilizer ball popped open in shipping...I washed it off as soon as I could but it seems to have burned that spot on the leaf. With so much new growth on the way I find it doesn’t really matter though☺️ Such a beautiful plant I almost want to get another!!
