Ananas lucidus is a dwarf, spineless pineapple formed by a tick rosette of lanceolate, rigid, glossy green leaves which exposed to full sun will develop intense reddish bronze colored stripes. This is a very ornamental plant, both for its colorful leaves and long lasting infructescence. Its compact size and lack of thorns make it a great choice for indoor culture!
Will produce a long floral scape covered by a thin whitish tomentum and lanceolate, sharp bracts, similar to the leaves at the center of the rosette, which ends in a broad spike of flowers surrounded by pink bracts and a thick rosette of leaves at the top. The flowers have fleshy green sepals, with reddish edges and petals that are white at the base and violet blue at the apex. The small fruit can be pink yellow to a pale red.
