Commonly referred to as 'Malaysian Orchid' and 'Malaysian Grapes', an easy to grow shade or houseplant with thick, leathery, green leaves that have distinctive light green veins. Under ideal conditions will bloom on and off throughout the year with gorgeous deep pink flowers drooping off long stems which can grow up to a foot long, opening in succession over several weeks and darkening to purple, resembling a grape cluster. The "berries" are not edible. Place in bright indirect light or filtered sunlight, does tolerate early morning and late afternoon direct sun but is susceptible to sunburn. Needs well drained soil, keep moderately dry. Feed monthly during the growing season with a high phosphorus fertilizer. If grown outdoors, best to protect when temps reach low 40's.
*Note to Customers: Medinillas excrete small, round, semi-translucent grains known as "growth sugars". These growth sugars are completely harmless to the plant and having growth sugars present is actually a tell-tale sign that that plant is healthy and thriving in its current growing conditions.
